The world Vs.Mauritania’s coup

This is for sure an international siege , it is not an economic one despite it can turn to one soon ,it is more like a political siege , the international community or more than the west is trying to form a pressure on the leaders of the Coup to return back the ex-president and the democracy.

I do not know if it is really the democracy the west wanted or not

Strangely after backing the coup Sarkozy joined the west against the coup, also the African union joined the club and they even suspended the membership of the African country in the African Union.

I see the action of the African union reaction is some kind of hypocrite act ,taken only to please the west because it can’t be for democracy ! How many democracies are in Africa ?? and how many member countries in that Union ruled by legendary dictators  !!??and the list is too long.So it can be for democracy.

Half of the African countries are ruled by military juntas for God Sake !!

Abd El-Aziz ,the leader of the coup promised that there will be free elections so soon ,why do not you trust him like Vall !!??

Give him time or even put some kind of a timetable before you all want to slaughter his coup. May be Abdallahi was not that great as you think and people got fed with him.

I know Military coups got bad reputations but again think of example like Vall, think of Sawar Al-Dahab even think of Naguib !!??

By the way we need some one fair to explain to us what is really happening in Mauritania ? who is who ?? and who is with who !!

  1. What happened in Mauritania should make us all worry about what will happen in Egypt after Mubarak is gone. Even if his son Gamal became a president, there is no guarantee that the army will not take over power since any civilian president will appear weak and lack the support of the military. Don't forget that Bashar El Asad was a physician in the Syrian army but Gamal's only connection to the army is through his father. Recently the US army war college has envisioned a troubled succession process in Egypt.

  2. @Dear Hazem, you are right ,in fact as soon as Mubarak leaves you will find the fight will start if it did not start before , this media war between Omar soliman and GM
Bashar in fact was not a physician in the Syrian army but he had to join it after his brother murder or death God Knows
Sometimes I feel that we will never be ruled by a civilian , since the pharaohs the ruler must head the army.
by the where can I find the rest of this important report ,I search for it but could not find

  3. Zeinobia,
I remember you had a post about the coup of Vall and the elections, I remember also commenting with a sense of pride on that post. This time I feel ashame and embarrassed. This coup is not on the president, the only legitimate president in Mauritanian history,it's a coup on the gains that all Mauritanian people fought for.Regardless of the weakness of Ould Abdellahi and his numerous mistakes, he was ELECTED by the majority of Mauritanians which gives him a legitimacy no one can take except by impeachment or other venues stated in the constitution.Ould Abde El-aziz was an employee under the president, his job was to protect him and to protect Mauritania,he should have stayed away from politics and let democracy take effect, after six years Mauritanians will have an other chance to elect an new president , or -who knows- may be Abdellahi will get better at doing the job and get re-elected.

  4. @My dear Mauritianian, I remember you too , my dear I understand what you mean but unfortunately the leaders of these coups do not put the people's choice in their consideration ,after all they think that people were deceived or mistaken
regarding the current coup ,I think you should give them some times already as far as I read many of Abdallahi's supporters and party members resigned from the assembly and the cabinet ,and many of them are supporting the coup ,I do not know much about the Mauritanian internal affairs but I know that may be this is a good sign
why do not you give some insight ?

  5. Ironically Ould Abdellahi was brought to power by Abdel Aziz, the same man who overthrew him.
There was this unannounced deal between the two that Abdellahi will be president and Abdel Aziz will be the head of the army, the rank "General" was created for the latter as a reward for his effort.
After the presidential elections Abdellahi formed a new cabinet presided by his rival in the first round of the elections Zein Ould Zeidan, that cabinet passed easily through the parliament, later on Zeidan in a surprising and unclear move resigned, many believe Abdel Aziz and others were behind it. A new Prime minister was appointed, Yahya Ould Alwaqf, he soon formed a new inclusive government that had many ministers from the opposition, only then the real problems started to surface.Abdel Aziz secretly and backed by former members of the old corrupt regime of Maaouiya some of them are MPs didn't like that move, they began a severe and destructive propaganda against the president and his wife, the president yielded to them and made that government resign,he formed a new one with the same PM but new cabinet members, they didn't like this one either and threatened by a vote of no confidence against it, which led the president to threaten by dissolving the parliament. All this is acceptable political battles and happens all the time.
Knowing that all this is coming from Abdel Aziz and his allies from the former regime, the president discharged Abde Alaziz and other influential military officers which is his given right by the constitution, Abde Alaziz then made the biggest mistake in his life and led the coup. As I said before Abedllahi is inexperienced and has been out of Mauritania for long time,he doesn't have the best record in good governance, he made numerous mistakes many Mauritanians didn't like, he brought back many of the heads of Maaouiya's regime, but he still is an elected president and no one has the right to overthrow him except the people's representatives, and when they knew they don't have enough votes to do that, they used Abdel Alziz to do it.Now the country is back to the dark days of military rule, with rising poverty and food prices, all major donors(US,France and EU)stopped their aid.People are starving the country is paralyzed and isolated just because some stupid corrupt PMs didn't get to be in the government and a stupid "General" lost his job that doesn't deserve to begin with.
    Mauritanian.
