Tawakal received along with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Leymah Gbowee , so not only an Arab lady got but another two amazing African ladies as well.

Tawakel is the youngest woman to get this important prize.
Here is the speech of Tawakel in English.

Yemeni sing an Musician Ahmed Fathy played the oud in the Nobel peace prize celebration ceremony.

Hopefully next year insh Allah we will find another young Arab getting a Nobel prize.
By the way I wonder how Ali Abdullah Saleh feels now !!

  1. I hope her prize will give her a chance to dislodge the Saleh's remaining influence from the Yemeni politics... I suspect this is not the case though.

This year was also tight race for Chinese Peace Prize which went to Vladimir Putin...

Maybe next year Ali Abdullah Saleh and Bashar Al-Assad will share the prize for the prestigious Chinese peace prize! As a consolidation for them when the civilized world decided to abandon them for silly causes like "massacring own people" or "inflicting sectarian war".

  2. Hopefully women can not only win Nobel prizes but also wield real power in future governments without having to worry about being murdered by old-fashioned traditionalists.
US has never had a female President which seems odd when you consider they are half the population but then they have millions of right-wing believers who think only they know where a womans place should be as their 'good' book supposedly stipulates. Just their indigenous culture, wouldn't want to mess with that, right?

  3. @Pirooz "millions of right-wing believers who think only they know where a womans place should be as their 'good' book supposedly stipulates"

Your understanding of American sociopolitical culture is rudimentary, cartoonish, and sixty years out-of-date.

  4. Sixty years out-of-date would always be more modern than your 140 years older TeaBaggerRightWing BS, Jasson

  5. Then care to explain why there hasn't been an American female president 'til now, Jason? It seems especially strange considering that even 'third world' countries such as Pakistan, India and Indonesia have had a woman in the highest position in the land. BTW you sound like a Tea Bagger :)

  6. @Sara "Then care to explain why there hasn't been an American female president 'til now, Jason?" Because we believe in electing candidates for their policies, not to satisfy gender quotas. It's an American thing -- you wouldn't understand.

  7. BTW @Sara, I have never heard anyone other than you seriously suggest that the position of women in the Muslim world is better than in the West. Should I laugh at you in derision, or to pity you in polite silence? The literacy rate in Egypt for women 15 years and older is 57.81%. In the USA it is 99%. Egypt, of course, is the world headquarters for female genital mutilation. If you still have your clitoris you should perhaps STFU. Just yesterday I see that Saudi Arabia beheaded an old woman for sorcery. Sara, you do understand that sorcery and magic are make-believe, right?

  8. "Because we believe in electing candidates for their policies, not to satisfy gender quotas. It's an American thing -- you wouldn't understand. "

Hahaha, And so does Saudi Arabia!

This has got to be the lamest excuse I have ever come across. I hope you aren't implying that in the past 60 years or so there hasn't been a single woman whose capable of running your country. I can give you a list of American females whom were just as qualified, if not more, than male candidates. Your denial won't change the fact that gender discrimination does exist in your society and is alive and well.

"I have never heard anyone other than you seriously suggest that the position of women in the Muslim world is better than in the West."

I never said this, you did. I surely hope you aren't insinuating that me and Pirooz are the same person only because I agreed with her, it seems that your trolling habits has sent you into a state of paranoia.

You are obviously the one who is obsessed with making comparisons between East and West, constantly trying to prove that your way of life is better and more superior. We realize that things aren't perfect on our end but thanks to positive young people like Z we are taking small steps towards change and hoping for a brighter future, not only for women but for Egyptians in general. What have you done in the past couple of months other whine about your favorite scapegoat "Muslims" and spam Z's blog?

As a Muslim woman myself I am grateful to see more women like Z and Tawakel speaking out on my behalf, I do not need a racist prick such as yourself to feel sorry for me or my clitoris. People like you try to pretend like they care about our welfare but the truth is all you're hoping for is that our countries keep deteriorating even more because it serves your geopolitical agenda and interests.

Perhaps you should clean up your own backyard before you start trying to 'fix' others or before you throw more stones.

  9. @Sara "...a racist prick such as yourself..."

    -_-

Can't we all just get along...? Let's everybody just relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy the trailer for the upcoming Sacha Baron Cohen movie in which he plays a Middle East dictator modeled mostly after Gaddafi, with female bodyguards and so on. Some of the reader comments are a riot. This one got the most down-votes:

"Why is it that every idiotic chracter that the jewish SBC invents seems to be a muslim? More than a coincidence I think. First we had Ali G, then Borat and now Aladeen. With his beard and name he is obviously a muslim. If another actor/comic was consistently parodying jewish people he would be shot down for being anti-semitic. These double standards make me so sad. Why is it so acceptable to be so Islamaphobic and ridicule muslims?

  10. Ayaan Hirsi Ali should have won the Nobel instead of these ladies.

  11. Beeing the lying bitch for every single islamophobic right-wing prick is something, but really not worth a nobel prize....
